Expired Film and Light Leaks

I had a shoot with a client who wanted dark but sharp images for a lookbook. I had other plans.

I provided the client with her needs, but I found a stash of expired kodak 200 Gold film at an old wedding studio that was closing down in Dubai and was aching to try it out. After reach look, I asked the model to step towards the light and would take quick shots with my pre loved Nikon FM2. I had a 50 mm on the camera and I had so much fun shooting !

Then the unthinkable happened. I opened the camera after rewinding the film and realized it had not wound up at all. I closed it in a millisecond and realized that most likely I ruined the film. Then I realized that I did this in a dark corner and maybe I should do the same thing to the next roll and see how it goes. I took digital back ups of most of the shots, and decided to throw caution to the film gods and exposed the negatives to light on purpose for just a second or two, before closing the camera and rewinding it again. God of light was with me on that day, as the light leaks are exquisite and only enhance the images in my opinion.

I ended up developing the rolls myself and was so turned on by the images, almost every shoot I do I make sure to do analog film on the side for myself now ! I just have to share the photos with you. Here’s my 4 favorites, but since I love the WHOLE shoot, I’ve uploaded most of both rolls below in 2 different grids, that you can click on to see in full and press next to see them !
